The Eyes of
Scientology
By Jeff
Jacobsen 9/2000
The Church of Scientology
owns $40 million of property in Clearwater, much of it downtown. Church
properties have security measures much more similar to prisons than
what a reasonable person would consider church property would have.
Below are photos of security cameras trained on Clearwater public areas
taken in 2000. This does NOT include other cameras on Scientology properties
that do not point at public areas. The question is, why is Scientology
so concerned about Clearwater citizens going past their properties on
the public areas? And why are there so many Scientology security people
walking around with cell phones, walkie talkies and video cameras?
For contrast, check
out your own church or synagogue to see how many cameras are on it. Check
out city hall, your bank, Albertson's, or any other organization or
business downtown.
Update
5/12/01
In February of 2001,
during criminal court proceedings, Scientology admitted to having well
over 100 cameras aimed internally at their members and at the public
in Clearwater.

The Gaslight
Alley
These cameras are in
an alley just east of the Coachman building at the southeast corner of
Cleveland and Ft. Harrison Ave. It was renovated in 2001 by the Citizens for a Better Clearwater.
Did Scientology's
influence on the CBC cause this to be the first project for the group?
In any case, Scientology's security cameras continued to be trained on
people who visit this public "park."
